The Old Town Hall in Prague is located at the Old Town Square, it was erected from around 1340, when the town hall purchased one of the tenement houses on the Market Square. Soon after, the construction of the town hall tower began, and in its ground floor around 1380 a chapel was created, which was enriched with works by Peter Parler – probably the most outstanding Czech sculptor of that time, working in the Gothic style. In 1402, the Prague Town Hall was also enriched with a city clock, which was replaced in 1490 with a much more perfect structure that exists to this day. This clock is one of the greatest tourist attractions of Prague today. The town hall itself was completed in the first half of the 15th century – during the Hussite wars. In 1548, the town hall was enlarged, and another extension took place at the end of the 17th century. In the nineteenth century, after the Napoleonic war, the so-called the northern wing, which, however, was destroyed in the course of the fighting in 1945.
