The Tupolev Tu-114 was a four-engine, turbo-prop, all-metal airliner with a Soviet-made low-wing design. The drive was provided by four Kuznetsov NK-12 engines with a capacity of 14,000 HP each. The flight of the prototype took place in 1957, and serial production was carried out at the Aviakor Works. In total, about 30 aircraft of this type were built. The Tupolev Tu-114 was created based on the very successful design of the Tu-95 bomber. After its prototype, it took over good performance, good flight characteristics and a reliable structure of the entire machine. However, the following elements were changed: the wing bearing surface, and the machine fuselage was also significantly rebuilt. When it was put into service in 1962, the Tu-114 was the largest and fastest turboprop passenger plane in the world. Due to the advantages of their design, machines of this type were directed to the most prestigious routes operated by Aeroflot, in particular the Moscow-Tokyo line. Aircraft of this type began to be withdrawn from service and gradually handed over to the military in the 1970s, starting in 1976.
